Work Program
Blackburn is one of only seven work colleges in the US, and the only one whose Work Program is managed by students.
Blackburn’s Work Program provides real opportunities for student learning, personal growth and development including “hands-on” leadership.
Blackburn offers the community model of students learning, living, and working together. Students gain an added sense of community and individual responsibility as a result of belonging, sharing, and contributing through their work.
In addition to a variety of job-specific knowledge, the Work Program creates opportunities for the development of numerous other abilities. In addition, you’ll experience a successful transition into life, work, and a career after college.
You’ll learn skills like:
- Time management
- Self-confidence
- Problem solving
- Oral and written communication
- Teamwork
- Leadership
Coupled with the gifts of Blackburn’s alumni, friends, and other donors, student work helps to keep the cost of attendance less than at most other private, four-year colleges in the country.
Virtually every area of Blackburn’s operations is supported by The Work Program. Each job falls under one of the following work departments:
